How far along? 20 weeks – halfway to baby time. We had the ultrasound yesterday and everything looks really good, Lil Tugger was being really cooperative – thanks in part to the tip I got to eat something sweet before maybe. Weighing about 13 ounces and measuring at 20 weeks 4 days. The Ultrasound technician said that puts my new ‘guess date’ at October 25, but I don’t put any stock in that. Baby will come when baby is good and ready no matter what the doctor or I say. Plus babies all develop differently and they just have these averages that they measure you against.
It was pretty awesome seeing the little bugger though, and I know Mark really, really loved it. I get to see and experience the baby moving around inside me every day and this was his first chance to really see it and watch it move and stuff so … yeah. I’m so glad he could come.
Total weight gain: 159/160 this morning I was just under 160 so I’m saying 159 which puts me at 12 pounds gained. I’ve been trying to cut back on the sugar and not overeat but we had that buffet dinner on Wednesday (where I definitely ate too much – my tummy was full all night) and then last night we had homemade burgers and fries and despite trying not to, I ate too much again. This weekend I will try really hard not to overdo it on food except mostly because it just kills my poor pregnant belly when I over eat. It’s not like normal.
Exercise: I’ve started sitting on an exercise ball at work, intermittently along with sitting in my chair, it’s good for your abs and helps promote proper fetal positioning, and even though the Little Shipp is still fairly tiny at 20 weeks, it’s never too early to get them in proper position.
Also, since I’ve been a little less than enthusiastic about the exercise these last two weeks I’ve started using the washroom on the 5th floor at work, just to help get a little bit more movement into my day. Then I try and get walks in at lunch when I can.
I need to start doing more upper back strength work because I’m trying to sit on the ball more at work but when I do my upper back gets really sore. When I sit in the chair I’m always reclined so it give me support, but I don’t want to be reclined all the time.
Sunday – Prenatal Yoga
Tuesday - A 20 Minute Pregnancy Yogalates Class
Thursday – Did a little bit of Prenatal Vinyasa Yoga for Flow and Hip Opening but about 20 minutes in I was done with it and did a little bit of Pregnancy Yoga Part 1: Opening and Softening but only about 5 minutes, I was just beat yesterday, after that I turned it off and listened to my Hypnobabies CD for the day.
Stretch marks? Nothing yet, still using that Palmer’s Coco Butter and Coconut oil at least once a day now since my friend beat it into my head how important it is. I have noticed that my belly gets a little bit itchy sometimes so I better be careful I've heard scratching can cause the stretch marks.
Sleep: It’s still pretty patchy, never enough. I feel exhausted a lot and because I hadn’t been good with taking my prenatals I wondered if maybe it was because of low iron but I legit am not getting enough sleep so it’s just rough. I was pretty much down for the count most of last weekend. I just keep waking up early no matter what, or at least once during the night.
Movement: Yep! Still feeling quite a bit of movement down there, sometimes it feels like a kick and sometimes it just feels like the baby swirling around in there. Yesterday I could have sworn I felt a kick with my hand but hubby wasn’t around to do a test for me so it could all just be in my head. This is probably my coolest moment this week, but at the ultra sound, I don’t know if it’s because you can’t go pee first so the baby couldn’t just sink down into my pelvis like it seems to like to do sometimes or maybe it’s just getting bigger, but when I lay down on the table I felt the baby move and it was just this big bulge on the right half of my stomach. It was a visible baby lump which has never happened to me before. Too bad Mark didn’t see that one either.
Pregnancy Diet: Trying to eat more orange foods for vitamin A, more dark greens, remembering to take my prenatal vitamins every day (but NOT first thing in the morning - that always makes me feel sick). Nothing I'd really call a craving and no foods that I just need to eat now, or every day. I feel like I'm still eating a fairly balanced diet (although sometimes I have been reaching for sugary things a little more and I'm a total chip monster - if there's chips, I can't stay away). I've also had a little trouble with eating too much, mostly if I go out or somewhere where there is lots of variety or it's just something really good, it's really easy for me to eat too much and then I just feel like I'm going to burst - there have been a few times like this over the last week which is partially why I think I gained a little more. No real food aversions although I am still not interested in roast at all.
Gender: Still don’t know, we had the ultrasound yesterday but they aren’t really supposed to tell you so we didn’t even ask or anything. To be honest, after seeing my little baby, I don’t know if I even care. I don’t want a boy or a girl anymore, I just want my little Shipp for exactly who he or she is. I don’t know if I want to find out either. Mark still wants to I think, but ultimately, I’m the one that goes to the doctor so it’s up to me if we do or don’t. I guess I’ll see how I feel next Thursday when I go see my doc.
Labour signs: Nope! Baby will come when baby is good and ready which is not yet.
Symptoms: Headaches are a common symptom at 20 weeks - Getting more sleep, eating higher-quality foods, staying well hydrated, and frequent exercise are good ways to treat and prevent headaches.
Belly button in or out? In
Wedding rings on or off? On!
Happy or moody most of the time: I’d say I’m fairly happy, but I do cry at the drop of a hat sometimes, usually happy crying, but sometimes not. Especially when I’m tired, I am way more likely to break into tears if I’m tired which is pretty much always. Can I not just get a good night’s sleep?
Best moment this week: Seeing the baby in the ultrasound and how incredibly happy it made Mark, also when I could visible see the baby shift in my belly and have a giant lump on one side of my belly button. That was really cool.
Looking forward to: Going camping in July
