How far along? 19 Weeks! The baby is the size of a mango.
I’ve been doing a lot of reading about labour this week. I had taken Ina May’s Guide to Childbirth out of the library ages ago and didn’t read it but kept renewing it and renewing it. Finally this week I decided I better read this book before they stop letting me renew it and I am LOVING it! So much really good information about what actually happens to your body during labour, how the cervix works, and more that I haven’t really gotten to yet. I would recommend this book to anyone.
I also signed up for our prenatal classes this week. They will be in September through BirthRoots, I am really looking forward to that. I’ve been super curious and interested in doing Hypnobirthing, which Mark thinks is totally hokey. So I'm thinking I may end up ordering the Hypnobabies Home Study Course, which I'll talk about more another time, but learning about Hypnobirthing and some of the theories behind it is what helped me get past my fear of giving birth. It introduced the idea to me that giving birth doesn't have to be this big traumatic ordeal that TV and movies make it out to be.
Total weight gain: I was 158 pounds this morning, so 11 pounds altogether.
Exercise: I’ve been pretty low energy this week and not as much as I would have liked, but Tuesday I did Yoga for Low Energy Days, Wednesday was Tracy Anderson Pregnancy Project Month 5, Thursday was I did two yogas: Stretching your Stomach and Heidi something yoga Flow – which may have been a little advanced for me but I just modified it to fit my level of yoga. Friday I went for a 30 minute walk at lunch.
Stretch marks? Nope, I read somewhere that stretch marks are or can be genetic and my mom told me she never got any with 4 pregnancies (!) so I’m hoping that is good info! But otherwise, I have started using Palmer’s Cocobutter Stretchmark cream – when I remember.
Sleep: Sleep has been a little scarce this week, I’m averaging about 4-5 hours a night. Although I did read something interesting today, this woman said she quit sugar and then she started sleeping really well and I have definitely been eating more sugar this week (all those cupcakes I made!) don’t remember last week, but maybe I need to cut back.
Movement: Yes!! Yesterday was the first day that I definitely felt the baby move, all week I’ve been paying real close attention and trying to get the baby to move by pressing on my belly – one time I felt something really hard and then it just moved away which I was soo cool until yesterday (well, that still was pretty cool – there’s a little person inside of me!!) but yesterday, I felt the baby. First, there was a moment at work when I felt something and was like, ok, either my tummy just did something weird or that was the baby kicking. Then when I was lying in bed I felt these little… pulses I guess, like it felt like when you are taking your pulse in your neck – they started on the right side and then I felt them on the left side. Mark got really excited and put his hand on my stomach to try and feel them but since I barely felt them on the inside, he didn’t feel anything – yet. Hopefully soon. That was really awesome.
Food cravings: Nothing really, but I do find myself eating more junk food on the weekends. Maybe my craving is junk food, chips, sweets, ice cream, but it might be more because I don't eat as proper and regular meals as on weekdays.
Food aversions: Sometimes I’m a little turned off by the idea of beef, but then I eat it and it’s fine.
Gender: Still don’t know, although everyone seems to think it’s a boy so I don’t know if it’s that influence but I find myself referring to it as a him a little more. Mark still thinks it’s a girl – I still really hope it is. No offence if you’re a boy, baby. I’ll still love you ;)
Labour signs: Nothing
Symptoms: Nothing really that I’ve noticed.
Belly button in or out? In
Wedding rings on or off? On!
Happy or moody most of the time: Happy!! But tired.
Best moment this week: Feeling the baby kick for the first time!!
Looking forward to: Still looking forward to the ultrasound – one more week!!! And we are starting work on the backyard to put up a deck this summer! I am really looking forward to that!
